Walking bridges

Working with an elevated level of stadium retail & entertainment, and overlooking the water feature, the walking bridge at the N&R site could be a draw in itself. Shown here, the walking bridge at Falls Park in Greenville has become the heart of the park.

We build too many walls and not enough bridges.

  • Liberty Bridge in Greenville

Directly over the Reedy Creek Falls Park, is the Liberty Bridge. This bridge is 345 feet long, curving with a 214 ft radius, and is 12 feet wide. The N&R site from Church Street to Davie Street is large enough to easily accommodate a bridge of that side, even on it’s shortest orientation from east to west.

  • Chicago's BP Pedestrian Bridge

A very short but stunning pedestrian bridge was recently opened in Chicago and it crosses a major highway. It is 900 feet long but only spans 90 feet! A great deal was spent with Frank Ghery for aesthetic impact and no one is suggesting that we put that much of our budget into a bridge. But there is no questioning that Chicago thought a walking bridge could be a destination in itself.

  • Other walking bridges...

Shown here is the Bob Kerrey walking bridge in Omaha NE. Like so many pedestrian bridges, it is a symbol of unification as it spans the Missouri River into Iowa. Bridges give perspective. They provide for intentional exercise and enjoyment. People walking around our downtown fills it with life!
